(Note regarding the map link: Their address does not appear to show the correct spot. Instead I used the address of a nearby restaurant in the same plaza. I'm not trying to send you to a different place.)

Another new place. This one opened near the end of October, 2011. This has the same name as a restaurant downtown and the two are linked by the owners being in the same family.

Viet Thai

613-567-9029

A relatively new place closer to downtown. It's on Bank just a little south of Somerset. They offer dine-in and takeout.

As the name suggests, they have Vietnamese and Thai dishes

Prices are typical for the area.

DSI Download Version 3.04 Released

So I'm trying to keep the DSI index more up-to-date than the annual releases that I've been in the habit of lately. So here's a new release only two months since the last one.

The most important feature of release 3.04 is it contains strip descriptions up to 2011-09-30. Other minor features are described in the Changelog file.

It's available on the Downloads page.

Pho LA Fusion

Map (to be done)

This is not a new place, but an expansion of the New Pho Bo Ga LA restaurant, which is next door. They share a kitchen.

The LA Lounge has two menus. One of them is the same as next door New Pho Bo Ga LA, and the other menu is more upscale and reflects the decor and appeal of a bar and lounge.

Prices on the upscale menu are slightly higher than the regular menu. Spring rolls are $5. Pho is $8 for a medium and $10 for a large.

This is the former location of the Thu Do restaurant.

DSI Download Version 3.03 Released

Time for another release for the Dilbert Strip Index (DSI) on the download page. Version 3.03 has the following new features:

  • Strips added up to 2011-07-31. Grammar corrections to older strips.

See the Changelog included in the zip file for further details.

Grab this from the Downloads page.

My Cat Maxie

Tagged:

Just after I bought my first house, I phoned my parents and told them excitedly, "I'm getting a roommate!"

Dad, who was ever so hopeful since I had been single for a few years, promptly asked, "What's her name?"

When I answered "Maxine," there was stunned silence on the line for maybe 10 seconds. They're old-fashioned in many ways.

Then Mom asked in a quiet voice, "So, you decided to rent out your spare bedroom?"

I responded, "No, it's more like I'm taking her in," and there was more silence.

I broke the silence this time and said "She's got long, brown hair and big, beautiful eyes." And taking pity on them at last, added, "And a long, bushy tail."

They twigged.

There is also take-out, although their menu is online only. Their website has a few nice pictures, and there is an interesting link to a table of allergens in their various dishes.

website

A new restaurant, opened Friday, March 18, 2011, in the location where Pho Mi 108 used to be. The signage has not yet been changed as of the date of this entry.

They're open 11AM to 9PM every day except Mondays when they're closed at 4PM.

The menu says they specialise in Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese soup. They do serve pho and Vietnamese spring rolls. The menu in the restaurant lists many more pho varieties than the takeout menu, so be sure to ask if you don't see your favourite.

Their website has not been finished as of the date of this entry, so details from there are non existent.

Pho Thu Do

Map
Website

Thu Do moved from their old location at 765 Somerset to this new place at 781 Somerset. There used to be another restaurant at this location calld Mee Xim, which no longer exists as far as I know. The move happened about the beginning of 2011. The reason is that the old building got a new landlord and the landlord didn't want to upgrade the kitchen, so they decided to move to a more modern place.

They now have an online menu on their website and you can see that it has expanded from before. Prices remain similar or slightly higher than before.

There are also comments and reviews from our thoughts on Pho Thu Do from years ago.
