This is right off of Bank St in busy downtown Ottawa. At the time of this writing, major construction is underway on Bank Street right where the restaurant is located, but they are still open. There is metered parking on the side streets close by.

They have a large selection of Vietnamese dishes, including appetizers, soup, rice dishes, roll-ups, desserts, and fancy drinks. Dishes range from $8 - $14, while the beef noodle soup is $6.49 (sm) to $8.49 (lrg).

Hours are Monday to Saturday 11am - 10pm, and Sunday 11am to 9pm.

Pho Bamboo

Map

A rather unassuming place from the outside, it is nicely decorated with what else but bamboo everywhere. It is larger than it looks, and much nicer inside that the outside out seem to indicate. There is also the potential for a patio in warmer weather, with 2 garage style doors that open from the inside.

They have a good variety on their menu, serving the usual soups, rice platters, and vermicelli dishes along with roll ups and appetizers. Prices range from $5.95 to $7.95 for the soup. They accept credit and debit. There is also parking in the back, although it is a narrow squeeze and rather dark and dingy at night. Their hours are Mon - Sun 11am - 10pm.

This is a very small restaurant in a strip mall across the street from Alcatel (on the corner of Terry Fox Dr). It is actually billed as a Chinese / Vietnamese restaurant, so they have both types of cuisine on the menu. There are less than a dozen soup varieties, although they also have your usual starters, plus rice dishes and vermicelli dishes. They also have a reasonable selection of Canadian-Chinese sounding dishes.

Pho Truc Lien

3010 St. Joseph Blvd (Orleans)

map

A fairly new restaurant, they had their Grand Opening a couple of weeks ago. It still looks like the Chinese restaurant it recently replaced, although the new owners will certainly add their own touches in time. They have a 10% off on pick-up orders, at least for the moment.

Their menu is similar to other Pho / Vietnamese restaurants that have been all the rage the past year or two, with a few appetizers, a reasonable selection of soup, some vermicelli and rice dishes, and even a few rice paper rolls. To round things off, they have a few special drinks including iced coffee and some shakes (coconut, jack fruit, etc).

Mee Xim

A smallish place that is right in the heart of Chinatown. The decor is simple to non-existant, with regular diner-style table and chairs. Street parking only.

The menu is varied, with many specials, appetizers, and specialty drinks. Most soups are one size, with prices around $6. Drinks are mostly a reasonable $2.

Pho Bo Ga 3

Another restaurant in the Pho Bo Ga line, the owner is apparently friends with the owners of the others in the "chain". It is located further down Somerset from the main glut of Pho places, just past Preston. It is of reasonable size if not large, having a number of tables for 4 that are quite spacious. The decor is fine, being clean and feeling spacious.

The menu is similar, bordering on identical to the menu of the other Pho Bo Ga's, with the usual Beef, Chicken, and Egg noodle soup combinations. There is a small list of additional specials which also strikes familiar, and includes some sate varieties. A few appetizers and fancy drinks tops off the list.
